The dolly I designed/built that I'm lending to Sandor has electric 
brakes (electronically controlled w/ inertia sensor), so the weight of 
the tow vehicle is less important.  I've towed thousands of miles 
pulling Sciroccos WITH a Scirocco and am convinced that it's as least as 
safe as any car/trailer combo on the road.  The brakes are rated for 
3500 lbs, which is alot more than the aluminum dolly and VW combined... 
   If anything gets out of line you can even reach over and activate 
the dolly brakes manually, and with the large track width of the dolly 
it's very stable.  I've had to do a few emergency stops and had no 
problems hauling it down in a hurry...
