Re: [VWoT] question about 1.8 16v head vs 2.0
to throw in my 2 cents, if yer not going to work the head too much, then
you want which ever head is the freshest (new valves stem seals, reground
seats, decked slightly)...don't waste extra cash on a 1.8 that you'll just
have to spend more on to get it fresh, if you can get a 2.0L head with a
fresh rebuild for less. I have the euro intake cam on my 16v with a 42mm
passat intake and that by itself was a nice improvement...would I drop the
extra $300-$300 for a euro intake manifold...no way in hell...unless you
have BIG cams and are planning BIG headwork (and have the header or race
dp and exhaust to go with it) you're wasting your money...also with these
mods you might wanna consider going with digi-1 or Megasquirt rather than
CIS to get some REAL power out of it (D..you wanna chime in here?)
But ultimately I agree with TMB...if you think you're going to spend over
$1500-2000 just on the head and all the stuff required for getting it
breathing right...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.
I was thinking the same thing with my 2.0L 16V mk1 and between the intake,
exhaust, headwork, cams and springs I would be out $2000.
and for that I know of at least 1 or 2 1.8T's available right now that you
can buy. If you are still hard for the 16V, then you could look around
for someone with a built but lost interest 16v to buy (let them take the
hit on the cost of all those parts and services)
just my 2 cents
