Re: [VWoT] FS: 1989 Jetta Trophy
Fuck you little girl.
They've been mine for 8 months now.
Here's the deal with Todd's car.
It was at his parents place, I started it right up, no hesitation, 1.3
whirrls and it was running. Stinks of coolant or oil pretty bad, but no
other issues.
Upon driving it to my place, there was a HUGE bogging hole between 1000rpm
and 3000rpm.
I'm told this only really happens when it's cold.
Cool.
About 4 minutes from my place, the car decides to throw the alternator
belt off the pulley. Charging Light is on, I'm shutting down everything I
can to conserve energy. (this has happened to me before)
The car sits for a couple days, not moving, and wasn't run hard before it
stopped.
I go out to start it up and take it to see tha doctor for new tires, both
balljoints, tie rod ends, and steering boots.
Alt belt is on the ground.
Upon getting belt on, Jay checks the oil, and there is none. We add 2+
Litres, and check the coolant. It's not full, but it's not empty.
Cool.
Jay gives me a boost, and I'm putting the tools away, when we decide to
shut it down to check the oil again.
Check oil, add some, good to go.
Turn the key......... Click. That's it.
So, out come the booster cables. (It's fucking cold out I might add)
Fires up fine after about 5 whirls.
Cool.
It sits running for about 5 minutes while I desparately try to scrape the
glacier that has mounted the like an angry/horny dog.
Defrost is on, fan is running full tilt, and I get back in to start the
scarrier than Jay in the morning Trek to the garage, with bald front
tires.
Hop on the 401, things are a bit shakey as the wheels are towed out like
mad, and it's wet and cold. Great combo's.
The run is about 100 to 120 kmph all the way from Milton to Etobicoke, and
I notice that the car seems 'boggish' (between 4K and 5K?) in 3rd when I
try to pass a truck. Same happens as a test when I shift to 4th and floor
it at about 3K. Kinda bogs a bit, but still goes. I think nothing of it
and carry on.
Upon pulling into the garage, and narrowly missing a set of gas pumps due
to lack of traction at 20kmph, ditch the car around back, and leave the
key.
I show up this morning, the car is in the garage, after being towed from
front to back, as apparently it'd thrown the alt belt again along my
travels.
I take off, and the doctor tells me a bit later that alt belt problem is
fixed, the front end hardware is on and cool, and he's taken it for a
drive to see about the steering before the alignment is done.
Cool.
Only, not cool. Mech gets to the first stop sign, after charging the
battery, and the car starting up with NO issues, and as he's starting off,
it stalls. I forgot to warn him about the bogging on bottom end.
Car never starts again. Can't even turn over the crank pulley by wrench
and johnson bar.
Sounds seized.
Mech checks the starter as it may be stuck in 'go mode', and nothing.
Everything seems cool, except the crank won't turn.
That's the story from my end, as I was the last one driving it, and it
didn't see 130kmph, for SURE, as I was scared as hell driving on tires
with NO tred. 3 people can vouch for said tire condition, one of them
being Todd.
So............ That's where it sits.
Todd, don't sell this car. Don't mod it more than it already is either.
I've asked around, and EVERYONE says it's a bad idea. Just get a car that
is already diesel if that's what you want, but don't convert this car.
Damian, any way you could cut a brutha some slack and just sell him tha
engine if that is in fact what he needs to fix this?
The wiring is worth more separate than what you're selling the engine for
anyway, right?
Bonhoff, Kreso, Jay, Sandor, anyone else (myself included), could we take
a night ( I KNOW time is tight ) or day and get this installed to save him
some money?
It's Christmas, and tha man is frustrated with his car.
We've all been there.
TIA,
Jer.
