Actually some shops are now equiped with nitrogen filling stations for tires... All tires with nitrogen in them have a green valve cap.

I'm curious to know what their sales pitch is. I have inflated lots of aircraft tires with Nitrogen. The reason for using Nitrogen on aircraft tires is that it is less prone to pressure changes from temperature change (aircraft wheels experience temps from -40C to +100C and above) and Nitrogen slightly less prone to leakage.

Unless you are running tubes, there isn't much point to inflating car tires with Nitrogen. I'd be willing to bet that the shops that are trying to sell you the Nitrogen are setting the tire on the rim with compressed air, then topping it up with Nitrogen. So the tire is already filled / partially pressurized with air - which is 78% Nitrogen.

If you had tubes installed, then the tube could be filled from empty with Nitrogen and you'd have to adjust your pressures less often. Of course, since you don't have a handy source for Nitrogen, when you do need to increase your tire pressures, you will be using compressed air.

Now if we were taking about beer, then Nitrogen would be better...
