The gas mileage wasn't the greatest. It had a 2.0L Turbo. I never
actually tracked fuel milage but it was more thirsty than my 1.8T
jetta.
Probably a bit closer to a VR6.
The 2.0L turbo had a very noticeable turbo lag, it almost gave you
whiplash when @ 4000RPM. When Subaru moved to the 2.5L turbo I hear
its wasn't as dramatic.
I think I've moved away from VW a bit because I was bored with what
they were offering.
At the time I felt like Subaru wasn't afraid to take chances and offer
a car that enthusiasts wanted (ie a rally car for the street).
And to be honest, I was looking for a VW when one of the salesmen at
Pfaff Porsche (where I was working) suggested I give it a try.
I drove it in summer (it had winter tires on) and I was sold. I paid
$2000 more than the 01 Golf 4-Door 1.8T I was looking at but I got
soooo much more with the WRX.
