Re: [VWoT] Anybody? Now Subbie

Don't forget insurance. Most VW's are silly expensive to insure. A 1996 Jetta is ok to insure, but newer Jetta's range from expensive to 'rape and pillage the bank account'. Take a look at <http://ibc.ca/en/Car_Insurance/Buying_a_New_Car/HCMU.asp> and download either the spreadsheet or PDF for details.

I went through the spreadsheet eliminating any vehicle that included red or yellow. That left 46 vehicles that are "below average" to ensure. Obviously no VW's were left. As best as I can determine, it appears that the following are the least expensive vehicles to insure:

1996 Buick RoadMaster Wagon - What? The 3 left on the road have never been in an accident? Lord knows that nobody would steal one...
2004 Ford Econoline E350 SD Wagon EXT - The size of city block and enough seating for a crew of worm pickers and their worms...
2007 Buick/Chev/GMC Rainier/TrailBlazer/Envoy 4DR 2WD - now this is at least getting realistic, but who would want to own or drive one?

I did this while waiting on hold with the insurance company, only to be told that they made a mistake and that it was too bad for me... <sigh>

I'm the same.  I think I'll stop at the mk4.  The mk5/6 really don't appeal to me at all.  They're too big and heavy now.

After living with the Subie for a while it's nice to have a car doesn't need to be wrenched on or develops a new leak once a month.  Everything in the Forester still works.  All the options are functional.  This is how it's supposed to be.

At the time I felt like Subaru wasn't afraid to take chances and offer
a car that enthusiasts wanted (ie a rally car for the street).

Yep, they not only gave us the WRX but also the STI.  Meanwhile, VW won't bring an AWD Golf/Jetta to Canada....but offers it to the states.  I don't get it.  I'm quickly becoming indifferent to VW's offerings.  I'll always enjoy the older models but have no interest in maintaining them for daily driving.

I drove it in summer (it had winter tires on) and I was sold.  I paid
$2000 more than the 01 Golf 4-Door 1.8T I was looking at but I got
soooo much more with the WRX.

How do you find the 'feedback' with the WRX?  This is really the only thing keeping me in german cars.  I haven't found a Japanese brand with the same driving 'feel' yet.  They're almost there, but not quite.
